Is there a bad area in Pasadena?
My family and I are moving the Pasadena and at first glance the entire city seems like a really great place to raise my kids! But now that I am considering buying a home there I was wondering if there are areas I should avoid?

Some areas north of the 210 are sketchy (around Washington). But I'm sure there are other posters more familiar with the area who can give you more details.

The closer you are to Altadena, north of the 210 it could be bad

North of the 210 can really be bad. If you want to buy a home, just make sure you dont buy in John Muir High School area. Best bet is to buy a home in the area of South Pasadena.

Oh that depends on how far east you are as well. Many areas around Altadena are certianly far from bad..

I would say, most areas in the north and west part of the city might be a little less than desirable.

Yes. Most of the area north of the 210 and west of Lake is bad outside of the Rose Bowl area although it doesn't get nice until east of Hill south of Orange Grove. Southeast Pasadena has its sketchy parts too, like between the 210 and Colorado east of Allen (tons of run down repair shops and used car lots) and the unincorporated area between the 210 and Del Mar (lots of run down motels), though they're not nearly as dangerous as the northwest area.

Most of north of 210 is fine, just stay east of Lake generally. Some areas between Los Robles and Lake are "okay" but I would avoid north of the 210 and west of Los Robles. Altadena is fine, again, the further east you go, and not so fine west of Lake.
Also note that Pasadena public schools are pretty poor if you have school aged children.
