Hi!
Anyone have an opinion about which they like better? Are either of the areas unsafe? We are spending the summer in LA and need to live within about 10-15 minutes (with traffic) of Culver City (near Jefferson and Rodeo Rd).

The apartments we considering are "Jefferson at Marina del Rey" at 3221 Carter Ave and "5600 Wilshire" on Wilshire BLVD. Any opinions about either of these complexes?

We'd like to be in an area that I can get out and about to the grocery, coffee shops, etc with our 8 mo old daughter during the day. I want to feel safe at night, as well.

I'm open to other ideas, if anything comes to mind. Thank you!!

Hello there,

I live in Marina del Rey and would definitely recommend it. There are a number of grocery stores within walking distance and I always walk/bike to nearby restaurants/parks/coffee shops. Right behind the Jefferson Apt complex is a nice park, Admiralty Park which is good for walks and people watching. The Jefferson is only a 5 minute walk to 2 different grocery stores (Ralphs Fresh Fare & Gelson's Market), both of which are very nice stores.

I would consider Marina del Rey to be very safe and have never felt unsafe walking around at night. The Marina is filled with higher end apt's and condo's so is generally not a hot spot for crime. As far as the commute to the Jefferson/Rodeo Rd area you will be hard pressed to find a 10-15 minute drive there from Marina del Rey during rush hour. If you are not traveling during rush hr than the drive would be about 15 min but with traffic definitely more. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Both areas are good, but you could save a heck of a lot of money living in Culver City. It's not as snooty, but it would enable you to enjoy unlimited entertainment possibilities.

We would love to live in Culver City...but can't seem to find any short term housing. Any ideas? Thanks!

Try looking under corporate housing.

The Marina is safe, clean and very walkable. You're near the beach, the air is fresh and you'll usually have a nice beach breeze. Several fun shopping districts are nearby. I think the Marina is one of the nicest part of LA.

If you want Culver City, there are several large apartment/condo complexes near Sony, close to Fox Hills Mall, that might give you a six-month lease. They have pools and other amenities. If you're looking for shorter-term, try Oakwood in MDR. Some of the hotels in the Marina have corporate housing, too. It's small and pricey, though.

5600 wilshire is a more central location. You aren't going to be spending the summer going to and from culver city only, so being more central would have it's benefits.
