Beaches near LA
We want to go to the beach and meet some friends there. LA is the half way point between us. We need to pick a beach and we know nothing about the area? Which beach would you recommend? TIA

That's kind of broad. LA covers a large area. Beaches I like in LA and LA County: Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice, Manhattan, Redondo. They all are nice. Venice and Santa Monica has more going on generally. Venice gets the freaks and street performers.

Are your friends coming from the north or south?

If you like a lot of wild ppl then Venice.
If you want to go where all the out of state tourists go then Santa Monica.
If you want to watch volleyball, surfing, etc... and go to a lot of good restaurants Manhattan, Hermosa.
If you want a bit more family friendly with less emphasis on the young and restless South Redondo along the Avenues is nice. This is my favorite of the LA beaches.

Laguna Beach. It's just south of Newport Beach, down the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and it's the best, in my opinion.

I would have to agree with Zuma Beach. Free parking on PCH, a lot of room on the sand, wildlife, and fun surf. If you want to do the tourist thing go to Venice or Santa Monica.
