Commute from Noho to Westwood
Wife and I live Downtown for now, but are looking at moving up to the Valley for the cheap rent and slower pace (and fewer crazies).
I know the 405 is tough (she'd be getting off at the Wilshire exit), but what kind of commute should we expect from, say, Noho, Sherman Oaks/Encino, Tarzana?
Would Burbank/Glendale be way too far?
She does about 45 minutes to 1.15 going up Olympic (I say she should try Venice, but she's stubborn) from DT to Westwood, and I think she prefers the surface streets. At the two canyon roads doable? Sepulveda?

Sherman Oaks might not be too bad bc you are right on the 405. That said, the 405 can be crazy... use at your own risk haha

Do a test drive from the valley to Sunset using Beverly Glen. It isn't too bad unless one is uncomfortable with canyon driving. If she is comfortable with that drive, that will make a decent commute to Westwood.

Agreed with KnoxTown. If she needs to take the 405 South to the LA Basin, then Sherman Oaks or Encino would be the best bet due to proximity to the FWY. Good luck.

Far as commuting, I'd just damn the torpedos and take Lankershim to Ventura, turn left on Ventura and go right over the hill. Hit a right on whatever e/w thoroughfare in H wood gets you closest to your westwood destination. 101 south's too slow. 405/sepulveda would seem too far out of the way from North Hollywood to Westwood, but it could work. In fact, Sepulveda might not be a bad idea. I'd just hate trecking all that way west down Ventura, or sitting in a stack of cars on the 101 West. And I wouldn't even think about taking one of the valley thoroughfares to the 405, like Magnolia. Ugh. the stoplights. It's nasueating thinking about it. I'd just take Lankershim and head right to the hill and get it over with.

I'd say that's probably the worst way to go.

Which other way would you go and avoid traffic? You're hitting traffic every which way. And honestly, Lankershim, Ventura, and Highland or whatever it is when you get on the other side of the hill, move faster than the 101. They have in my experiences.

Beverly Glen, Coldwater, and Laurel Canyon would all be faster to get to the west side.

If we were to end up in SO or Encino, how bad is Sepulveda?

From Sherman Oaks near the 405 expect a 45 minute rush hour commute each way to a building off Wilshire. Less on good days, but probably never less than 35 minutes.
I live on No Ho/Van Nuys border and my neighbor makes the commute to Century City each day. She takes the surface streets Laurel Canyon over to whatever to La Cienega. 1 hour each way.
