Safe Areas Near CSUDH
What are safe areas to live near CSUDH? I would like to be less than 10 miles for the university if not closer. Are there any safe areas to live in Carson. I would be living by myself early twenties going hopefully for graduate school.

For those who live in the area immediately around Cal State Long Beach (22 Fwy and 7th, I think it was), I remember that as being a pretty decent neighborhood. But it has also been around 20 years since I have been to that part of LB. That isn't that far from Dominguez Hills, is it? If not, it might be worth investigating.

I would suggest Long Beach(Bixby Knolls and Wrigley would be the closest good areas) as well as Signal Hill. It's not terribly far and it's has the best neighborhoods in the area. Carson, Compton, Wilmington, etc are all mostly not what you would consider safe when compared to other areas. There are some decent streets, but you need to get with someone that lives in the area to get that info. I don't know of anyone here that lives there on this board though.
You could also look at Torrance, which may be a little closer than Long Beach

carson is fine. the area around campus is lots of new development. other older tracts off of el segundo. but still nice big two story homes.
you might end up in a house. if its an apt. just make sure its not a shady one. apts tend to be on main drags and attract more shady folks than homes in residential streets.
carson is fine tho.

the area around CSU Long Beach is very nice. Basically middle/upper middle class suburban neighborhoods. But it is pretty far to commute to CSDH.

My grandmother has lived in Carson for over 30 years and she doesn't want me living there. Neither does she want me to go CSUDH for that matter. What areas of Long Beach are closest to CSUDH? I don't want to live any place with bars on the windows or bullet holes through stop signs.

Bixby Knolls, Wrigley, and the city of Signal Hill are the best close areas I can think of.

your grammas got bars on her windows? bullet holes thru her corner stop sign? seriously, just south of campus are some nice houses. around the campus there are nice houses.
chances are you will end up in an APT. and apt living is always the pits. unless its a charming tri or 4plex with a nice inviting central courtyard. those are of the older variety. carson is very much newer mid centruy housing stock.
good luck.
