Weather in La Canada Flintridge versus Encino and other areas?
What is the weather like in La Canada Flintridge versus Encino, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, or Pasadena, South Pasadena, and San Marino?
I've heard that it is much cooler like areas near the ocean, but I've also heard that on hot days it can get very warm and stay very warm and dry. I have also heard that they have never had serious wildfires in La Canada or La Crescenta, true?

The weather is similar.
La Canada gets somewhat more rain because it is in the foothills.
All the other cities you mention above are warm to hot in the summer; ave max temperature is upper 80s to low 90s. Fortunately, the humidity is very tolerable. I checked my location a little while ago... currently 92 degrees with 19% humidity.
As for wildfires, there was a bad one some years back in nearby Altadena but don't recall any in or near La Canada or La Crescenta. Those two cities are very nice and scenic.

Weather/air quality in any of LA's inland areas is fairly unpleasant and likely unhealthy (weather is far better than weather anywhere else in US, but inferior by coastal LA/SF stds)...and these places are fairly distant from any relevant offices or edible grub
Air quality in BH is only tolerable (and is a fair degree warmer than Westside W of 405); would live in Brentwood or Palisades to have quite good weather/air quality, yet be reasonably close to major offices, good restaurants, fun mtn driving rds (for wkends), etc

I think it depends on why you want to move to one of these areas. If it's for work, you will have to factor in commute time. Picking out an area that has multiple transit routes is key to having a sane life in LA. In terms of heat, inland areas are normally hotter than beach cities, but you should also factor in altitude. Temperature decreases about 3 deg F for each 1,000 ft rise in elevation. So the foothills, such as La Crescenta and La Canada are cooler because they are located in the part of Los Angeles County with the highest elevation (Sister Elsie Peak, located in adjacent Tujunga). Air quality is also determined by trade winds and surrounding industry. Fires occur around the Los Angeles Crest Forest, unless you plan on buying a multiple million dollar home in the forest, this probably will not be an issue for you. Generally speaking, mountain areas have wind, flat areas do not. Beach cities are great, but every transplant wants to move there so rents are high, space is limited, and traffic is horrible. You have only three major transit routes 405, 110 or Pacific Coast Highway. Los Angeles is a series of suburbs, you will find places to eat and shop throughout the county. Generally speaking, the cultural hub of LA is in old LA, Hollywood, Downtown, Los Feliz, etc., places where locals go to sporting events, concerts, musicals, museums, etc. Again, if you lack a trust fund and need to work, factor in your commute time as a major component when determining where you want to live. LA is the home of road rage for good reason....
