Question From Florida to LA

I will be moving over to LA in the coming months. I will be working in Downtown. I know I will not be able to afford to buy a card board box so I am looking for places to rent that are fairly safe. My girlfriend and I are 28 years old. What would be good areas to consider? Now here is the scary part. Together our annual salary will be roughly $95k

Actually, you'll do fine with that amount of money. Don't let anyone scare you about that. I survived for six years in the area with less than $20K per year! Not fancy living, but relatively safe and most basic needs met.

I suggest "The Valley" which is the San Fernando Valley; more oriented to family living. Most people commute from there to their jobs in LA proper.

The best place to live and you can find an apartment, at least, in Burbank, CA. It's clean, a great police force and has a small town feel with all the "fun part" of living in media-savvy California. Burbank holds Warner Brothers, Disney, NBC and Universal Studios [well, Universal is its own city, sort of].

Studio City, North Hollywood (some parts) and Van Nuys (some parts) are cheap and also in the San Fernando Valley. When you live there, it is called "The Valley" as in "Valley girls and guys".

Thanks for the answer. What would the monthly rent be in these areas for 1 or 2 bedroom place?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

There are nice areas that are very close to downtown. Check out Mt. Washington 90065, South Pasadena 91030 and (parts of) Highland Park 90042. Pasadena is awesome zip codes 91101-7 (91103 is gritty in some parts as is a little of 91107). On 95k a year you'll do fabulous. Here are examples of rentals around the Pasadena area. I didn't edit:

Glendale and Montrose can be pretty good too. And the Silverlake and Los Feliz areas. You really have a good variety of places that are good to live in.
