Hello all. I am seeking some assistance with the history of the L.A. County Metropolitan Courthouse on South Hill Street. For those of you that know has that particular courthouse always been traffic court? I do know that today it is.

How long has the building been there, and has it ever housed anything but proceedings for traffic citations, DUI's etc? Has it ever been a criminal court for felony and misdemeanor proceedings that are not traffic related?

I am doing some research on this location and I am finding it difficult to find anything online about the history of this particular courthouse. Thank you in advance

Have you telephoned the courthouse or its parent jurisdiction yet and asked the same questions?

Yes, I did call the courthouse and spoke to someone who has been assigned there since 1987 and she explained to me that since she has been there it has always been traffic court. So I am seeking additional clarification as well, that perhaps the courthouse at one time or another before 1987 was not traffic court.

Try the grand central library. It's down the street from the courthouse and they have records on things like this. There's also the hall of records down the street from the courthouse.

This is just a shot in the dark, but you might get a nugget from this google search...maybe there is a person or historical society that can be of help. I think this stuff is interesting too.
