Can you give a definition of what 'safe' means for you?

I want to not be robbed or shot living in my apartment and want to be able to go out and walk around I will only be here a few years while I try and get some acting experience.

I lived in Hollywood (along the Yucca corridor area, just north of Hollywood Blvd) and was never robbed or shot while in my apartment or while walking around.

Firstly, Safe is relative, and highly subjective. Secondly, I'm a youngster, so I'm more willing to "rough" it a bit
Since I'm assuming you're going to be new to the city, I'd avoid Westlake and Pico-Union (they aren't necessarily dangerous, but I wouldn't recommend them to a newbie), along with some parts of Koreatown, East Hollywood, Downtown and Mid-City (the part near West Adams; past Arlington). Fairfax, Miracle Mile, Mid-City and most of Hollywood should be fine, along with select blocks of the aforementioned areas.

By your definition, basically any area in Hollywood or Central LA would do. The chance of you getting robbed or shot in your own home is very low.

Los Feliz and Silver Lake, too. Also Hancock Park (although the boundaries between Hancock Park and Fairfax, Miracle Mile, and Hollywood are somewhat amorphous).
I presume you didn't mention West Hollywood because of its rather confusing boundaries with the Fairfax District and Hollywood, although WeHo is just as westside as it is central (Fairfax also straddles the westside/central boundary particularly because Fairfax Ave. itself is usually considered to be the eastern boundary of the westside - the zip codes can be different on the east/west sides of Fairfax in the Fairfax District and WeHo ; of that neighborhood's 3 main zipcodes, 90048 is west of Fairfax, whereas 90036 is east ; 90046 straddles both sides. 90069 iirc is from the Beverly Hills border to Crescent Heights, mostly WeHo but a small bit of Fairfax is in there too.)

Yeah, those areas, too. For whatever reason, I don't really consider Los Feliz/Silverlake 'central', not that they aren't, they just don't pop in my head when I think of the area.

West Hollywood is quite safe. Really most of the areas you describe are fine. The south eastern parts of Hollywood proper aren't as nice as the rest of Hollywood. But western Hollywood is fine. Los Feliz and Silverlake are great. Echo Park is fine now as well.
Of course your best bet is to come check out the areas yourself and observe. Nothing in those areas are so dangerous that seeing for yourself is risky.

It depends on how safe you can afford.
