Ficus (fig) trees - the same kind as you might have in your living room or office.

I don't know whether they will grow outdoors in New Jersey or not, but now you know what to look up.

Nope. These won't grow large like this, outdoors, and live the winter in Bergen County like they do in the southwest. Sorry!

I am from Bergen County too, BTW.

Default My turn for tree identification

I have a row of 5 trees across the street from me that are gorgeous and I'd like to line my property with the same trees. Can anyone help me identify what kind of tree this is in the center?

I can't really tell from the picture, but does it have peeling bark? If so, it might be a Chinese Elm.

When you post it in the garden section (or if you want to elaborate on this thread), a close-up of the leaf and the bark will help. The picture that you posted, with the shape of the tree is good, and those other two pieces of information will help even more to define which tree you're looking at.

Here's the closest shot I have from my camera. I'm crossing my fingers you guys have an idea what this tree is. The Chinese Elm looks close, but the leaf on the Chinese Elm is "toothed" whereas this tree is not.

I think I was looking at the tree in the forefront, this looks like the tree behind. Don't think it's a Chinese Elm. Doesn't anyone in the neighborhood know?

RE: The one in the first post. Not a ficus. (Also, the ficus you may be familiar with as a typical throw away indoor office tree is not the same as a fig tree - fig trees have much more massive leaves). I don't know what they are called. They are common city street trees in many parts of coastal California.
