Solvang and Santa Ynez
My wife is coming to visit me soon (we're both USAF and are currently stationed apart for the moment) and I'd like to show her the Vineyards at Solvang and Santa Ynez. I've taken her to San Luis Obispo before and she fell in love with the city's beauty and the wine!
I'd like to know if there is anything else to see while we're there? I know Solvang has a danish heritage, but what's Santa Ynez like? Also, I'd like to take her to a nice restaurant (not coat-and-tie nice) while we're there. Ideas? Thanks!

Chumash Casino is located in Santa Ynez. Los Olivos is also close by. Quite a few vineyards and also has several tasting rooms and restaurants in town.

I suggest the Cabernet Bistro in Solvang. Excellent place, know the owners, great food, and a romantic atmosphere. Not suit and tie, but upscale. I would make reservations of course. They are known for their duck, but most recently I had the ribeye and was very happy.
Chumash is a very nice place(honestly the best bed I've ever had in a hotel), is 4 diamond rated by AAA(their highest rating), and has good food, but the casino itself is smallish and the crowd is definitely a bit on the senior side.

Santa Inez Valley is an eyeful of gorgeous horse country. Los Olivos is quaint and horsey and recently inundated with Michael Jackson fans so they may now have a public bathroom.
For a top notch dinner, I would go over the mountain to Santa Barbara. Santabarbara.com can tell you what restaurants have the best food these days I guess.

Not suit and tie and more for libations - Cold Spring Tavern off of 154, between SB and the Santa Ynez Valley.
