What's with the stupid conflict with The Valley & Hollywood? (Orange: living, rail)

Pros of the Valley

The mountains and hills are lovely IMO. I always enjoyed the contrast of the large Verdugo Mountains and the smaller, greener Santa Monica Mountains. Not sure what the name of the mountain range is in the West Valley, but they are gorgeous as well.

There is less B.S. Parking and traffic seem to be easier, although getting from the Valley to the Basin during rush hour is a royal pain. Lots of traffic on Ventura Blvd., but some of the streets south of the Blvd. can be a beautiful shortcut through some of the nicest neighborhoods in the state.

It seems like there is a higher percentage of "transplants" in the Valley so you tend to get more regular people that are cool and down-to-earth.

Lots of entertainment jobs in the Valley, and no, it's not just porn. There are many production companies and studios including one of the capitals of entertainment, Burbank.

Many good restaurants on/near Ventura Blvd. Sushi row, Casa Vega, Simons Cafe, etc.

Cons of the Valley

Way too hot (for some) during the months of March - October. (generally)

A few weeks ago, it was 72 degrees when I left Venice in the afternoon and it was 95 degrees at my friends house in North Hollywood around the same time. Your energy bills will be higher because of this.

It can be a little boring. Lets face it, the "action" is over the hill. Whether it's Sunset Blvd. or the bars in the beach cities, the nightlife is considered "better" in the Basin. It's easier to run out of options or get bored with the same places in the Valley.

There's a district/neighborhood for just about everyone in LA. Just ignore the Valley haters. I'm sure their neighborhood is far from perfect even if it's over the hill.

I believe they are called the Simi Hills. They really kinda just blend in with the Santa Monica Mountains though.

Anytime a westside snob makes a comment about the valley sucking, I just point to the fact that I live in a 2000 sqft house while they live in a 700 sqft apartment.

The conflict is over tax dollars.
Hollywood is a big contributor when you look at the taxes paid.
Hollywood is a armpit, dirty and ran down with the occasional bright spot. Urine soaked sidewalls, bums line the streets at night.
Hollywood has fought for years to secede, taking their tax dollars with them. LA city needs those tax dollars to survive.
