Hello,

I am French and will move to Los Angeles at the end of the week. I have to get a California Driving License before starting my MBA in September.

I have already an appointment on August 24, that they called office visit appointment.

1) It seems that I will be able to take the written test on the same day. Is that so ? My appointment is at 1.45pm.
2) Is it possible to take the driving test on the same day ? It seems I have to book another appointment through their website. However, I need a permit/driver's license number, which I don't have... Does it mean that I have to take the written test prior to the driving test ?
3) Do I have to bring my own car for the driving test ?

Thank you in advance guys,

Laurent

you will take the written test the day of your appointment, but you will have to schedule your behind the wheel test for a later date once you have passed the written test. i believe you schedule this at the DMV. and yes, you will use your own vehicle for the behind the wheel test.

When you return to the DMV for your road test, make sure the vehicle that you plan to be tested in can pass an inspection by the examiner. When I came to my Calif. road test with my aunt & her car, my examiner found a lose wire in one of the lights (causing a light not to go on which really wasn't a problem for day time driving!) & canceled the exam (before it started!). The examiner wanted to reschedule it for another day. In my case, I was lucky that my aunt was able to contact her mechanic who was able to fix the problem with an hour & get the car back to the DMV so I could still be tested the same day. But not all examiners are so agreeable!
