I moved from L.A. to Chicago in 2008. My first two years I was very homesick, though I did like Chicago a lot. I do think about moving back in a few years though, but not just yet...

It seems like half of Chicago went the other way you did...to LA.

I think it is for a lot of us, but not for others!

Depends on what you were looking for. As of right now and likely for the foreseeable future, I prefer LA to Chicago, but I have met those who prefer it the other way around.

If I had to move someplace like Chicago that had a 4-season climate, I'd most likely have A LOT of problems making the adjustment and would be homesick all the time. No matter how much I like someplace in another area of the country, it wouldn't be enough for me to pull up stakes and move out of California. I would miss the nice climate and all the things to do and see around here too much!

Where in upstate? Buffalo winters are the most brutal, Syracuse is a bit better, but still puh-lenty of snow and cold. (I was born in upstate)

Word of advice: don't swim in Onondaga lake.

Upstate NY has its charms...but it's a huge change from LA. Where are you moving to?

We like visiting New Paltz, Woodstock and Cold Spring but I live downstate NY and I don't think I could live there....its more remote than I am used to.
