LA has more to offer, and bigger. You're also closer to Las Vegas, Mexico and Orange County.

SF is nice, but it's isolated and the only city to do things.

Vegas...blah been there once, no need to go again, if you live in the Bay Area and want to gamble you can go to Reno/ Tahoe were there is skiing in the winter and the lake in the summer, much nicer than Las Vegas....and why would I ever want to go to Mexico, have you been watching the news lately?

When I leave LA for SF, one of the biggest things I’ll miss is being able to just hop in the car and be in Vegas 4 hours later. LA definitely feels more centrally located IMO with Vegas, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Big Bear Lake all within a reasonable driving distances for quick weekend getaways. However, San Francisco still has plenty within driving distance: Big Sur, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Yosemite, Sacramento – it just doesn’t really have other big cities nearby. Then again, Portland and Seattle are only a short flight away, as is Vegas.
