That's actually the California smell.
There is no way anybody could possibly say there's one "California look". Or two or three or ten. I mean, seriously. You just don't get much more varied than this. Anything other than a parka is pretty much the California look. (And maybe that one is cool in NorCal, who knows.)

She didn't go into too much detail, so I came here for some answers on what exactly constitutes the "Cali look".
Oh, and my usual wardrobe consists of Vans slip-ons, all-stars, slim boot-cut jeans, longer hair, canvas style blazers with black undershirts or a "messy" button-up shirt. And I won't forget my tom-cruise Risky Business 80s Ray-Ban's (they're not really Ray-Bans...not that rich. They're Target knock-offs)

When I was in Cali, my impression was that most people were carbon copies of their fave mall dept. store. Period.

Do they have a lot of mall department stores in Cali, Columbia? I know we have plenty of them here in California.
I do agree that many do try to follow the look of a favorite store.

The stereotypical California look for a woman is long blonde hair, barbie doll figure, tight anything and of course, tan. Remember.....I said stereotypical which is how many out of staters think younger women look especially from watching The Hill or The OC and for those out of the loop, Baywatch! California women come in all sizes wearing what they are comfortable in if they are smart or trendy if it kills them. Girls are another story.

I live about 10 miles from downtown LA and I think styles vary depending on where you are. "Eclectic" kind of covers it. I love the "Lolita" look that you see in Koreatown. And I really had to check out an Asian high school student (boy) who was wearing a white on black spotted hoody, straight leg jeans and oversize-puffy atheletic shoes (I know there is a name for those but it escapes me). It was a very cool look.
I'd say LA is kind of "Come as you are" -- just don't bring the Walmart duds.
