Manhattan Beach or Newport BeachCompare/Contrast
What are the differences and similarities? I have pretty much looked up most of the statistics so I am looking more for a generalized overall vibe, type of people comparison of the two from people who have lived both places or are familiar with both places. Thanks!

Newport has become the new money capital of the world. There is a lot more plastic feel to it. MB is more congested but still has somewhat of a old beachtown feel to it.

Agree. Newport Beach also feels just like a inland suburb (except the real estate is $$$$) once you get away from the area directly around the harbor. Manhattan Beach has a beach feel throughout. Much of what is east of PCH in Newport (except for Corona del Mar) doesn't really feel at all like you are in a beach city so unless you plan on living right around Newport Harbor or on Balboa, Lido, etc.. which still has its charms and beach feel, go with Manhattan Beach.

Between the two, I would take Manhattan Beach in a second. It's a smaller community in terms of population and everyone I know who lives/has lived in MB enjoys the community-focused aspects of many of its neighborhoods.
The best way that I can think of to underscore the difference is that people choose to live in Manhattan Beach for the comfortable beach lifestyle that's within relatively easy reach of much of the region; whereas many people live in Newport Beach to say that they live in Newport Beach, the beach lifestyle is secondary, and there are more outward manifestations of supposed status.

newport beach has a lot more college aged students than manhattan beach due to its proximity to UCI. otherwise, they are very similar in my opinion. both have plenty of young people and things to do, but they also both have plenty of very wealthy families who choose to live in smallish houses near the beach with good schools for the kids. i often compare newport to manhattan and huntington to hermosa. if you like both then i think it is a win-win situation.
