Did I miss the part about your budget? Depending on what it is, I would suggest West Hollywood or the Miracle Mile District because they have good public transportation and easy access to basically the entire city.

My friend has lived on North Cherokee Ave for 14 years, in the same apartment. Many of his friends live in or around this area and they all work at the studios. Half of them own cars, the other half commute by shoelace express, bike, or bus. I love the area because you can leave his apartment and are right in the middle of everything. Very convenient area.

Default Update!

So it was almost impossible to find a place that was 'gonna take a chance on us' and work around our 'other' incomes since we don't have jobs yet. We found a place, {seems}nice, and affordable. Blind moves suck tho, you really can't get a feel for the area. We're a little south of Hollywood, if we hate it, we have the option to move to another area where management has other apartments...let's see what happens, once again, thanks for all of your comments, much appreciated!

Where did you end up? Major cross streets?

Are you in Koreatown?

Pretty close to Santa Monica Blvd, but not in Koreatown. Hopefully it will be an okay area. Google street view certainly helps, but you never quite get the feel for the area. I think any place is a risk, just gotta have some street smarts I suppose. Here in the 'seemingly' safe, nice, preppy neighborhood in San Fran, we saw two different girls get mugged right under our window. Stores get robbed, windows busted out...so, you never know. We just need to 'be down there' and not here. Hopefully we get great jobs *cough, and buy a place of our own eventually. Stay tuned for an update!!!

santa monica blvd through hollywood proper can be sketchy. plenty of hookers in the area, but i doubt you'll see any muggings like you did in SF. however, you won't be too far from silver lake and west hollywood if you ever want to get out of hollywood proper.

So. We're here in Hollywood. Haven't had much time to venture out yet, been unpacking and such. Tomorrow we'll be here a week, can hardly believe it. We love the apartment, very, very nice. The apartment building itself can use some work. The neighborhood seems okay, tho we decided NOT to venture out at night. I think we're on the cusp of the nicer neighborhoods...but still kinda in Hollyhood. We're still very happy we were able to get 'any' place without having a job. We needed to be here, irregardless.
