It used to be a blast, but is kinda boring now. Plus there's no place to park for less than an arm and a leg. Too bad.

I hear you there. That's what it seems like. All those parking lots that charge fifteen or twenty dollars to park. The meters are all filled up. One guy told me that it doesn't pay to have a car in Hollywood. I'd like to see The Strip going again like before.

Ahh, the days of going to the Rainbow Bar and Grill and having people go booth to booth try to get or sell Qualudes....or the food fights...meeting Led Zepplin and shaking Robert Plant's hand...sitting with Cher and Greg Allman...being picked up by Shaun Cassidy and later having a snack with his brother David and publisist....watching Keith Moon buy coke from my groupie friend...being invited to sit with Richie Blackmore and have him say nothing.....so many stories,so little time.

Well, I was 17 and had this groupie friend that was pretty infamous at the time for being Jimmy Page's girlfriend (she was 13 or 14) and I was invited to a party in the Hollywood Hills for this new group, Bad Company. Never had been to a Hollywood party so I went. Sooo nervous as there were many famous musicians there. Keith Moon was skinny dipping in the pool with several others when an English guy came up and introduced himself to me. When his name didn't ring a bell he rattled off the names of several rock groups out of England that he played with. Poor guy just couldn't impress me as he was use to doing in L.A. Turns out it was **** Ralphs of Bad Company who also played with Mott the Hoople. We ended up connecting the next night as I drove in B.C.'s Limo from the Hyatt House with only the rest of the band and their manager, who was also Led Zepplin's manager. They were invited to Joni Mitchell's house in the hills and hoped I could help them find it as their driver was England as well. Looking back today, I can't believe that I put myself in jeopardy like that and was very lucky that nothing happened to me. I didn't say that nothing happened.....I'll never tell.
That was pretty exciting for a girl in high school from the Valley but so was meeting Robert Plant as he stood alone upstairs at the Rainbow. I actually saw him come in and stood at the register talking to the cashier who was also seeing John Bonham at the time. I was so excited to see him, and alone. He went upstairs, alone....so I waited a bit and then went up myself only wanting to meet him and express my love of the band and their music. I just asked if I could shake his hand and that was it. I am positive I was the only girl that had experiences hanging out with a few groups that never slept with a soul. I saw what people thought of the groupie I knew and the horrible names they called her behind her back and never wanted to be seen like that, so I stayed a virgin rock and roll fan and proud of it!!

Wow, thats incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Sorry, I'm not getting notifications for some reason that anyones answering this post; sorry its taken awhile for me to return!)
Robert Plant is a damn legend, I can't BELIEVE you shook his hand -- and also, I loved your morals. Also, from my experiences I know that the band members in general like a girl that plays the field, a little hard to get y'know? Thats such an incredible story. Got any more?
I got one for you. Its not a Sunset Strip story, it happened when I was visiting my cousin across the pond in London. I went to the Velvet Revolver gig at the Hammersmith apollo last month, and we got within mere feet of Slash at the stage-side. Now thats cool enough anyway, because he's my frickin icon. But he never lifted his head ONCE during the performance which I was less than happy about. But towards the end of the gig, this huge metal head dude behind me was crushing me into the barriers so I yelled at him to stop. He misread (yeah right!) what I was saying and lifted me onto his shoulders! Just as Slash was playing three feet away. So picture this right; Slash has got his head bent down, guitar on his chest playing some crazy ass solo, and then this random girl just pops up, like right in front of him! His head shot up and he burst out laughing. He yelled something (probably 'crazy *****, or something, haha). Then at the end of the gig, he tried to throw me a pic, but I couldn't catch it. So all thats cool... house lights come up and I'm getting ready to try and get out of there... and then the metal head dude turns to me and says '**** turn around!' I turned to see Slash had come back out onstage. He was looking into the crowd. I went back to the barrier and he kinda darted at me, kissed his hand and reached to give me something, then ran away again. He gave me a silver snake ring! I just kind of stood there in shock. Then ran out of the venue like the hounds of hades were on my tail, because lots of the crowd were looking like they wanted to kill me for that ring...!

Yeah I'm from England originally -- I'm 24, but even though I wasn't around in the Zeppelin days I love the music. And I completely envy your meeting Robert Plant!!

On a different day or should I say night, I was at the Rainbow with friends when I spotted the girl I had mentioned earlier sitting at a booth with ALL of Led Zepplin. She called me over to the booth and introduced me to all of the guys. That was before introducing myself alone to Robert. It was fairly normal in those days (the early and mid 70's) to see the hottest groups just hanging out on any given night. It was a safe place for them to go because the regulars were so use to seeing them that they just stayed cool for them. Groupies was another story. Just didn't get that mentallity. Along with risking catching something??

Incredible...! From what I hear (and the little I've seen) its pretty different nowadays, which is a real shame. And from the bitching that I've heard about groupies, I think your damn right to have adopted the mentality that you did
