Hello anyone that can assist please do so.
I am a recent widow (husband passed away from cancer) of Cleveland, Oh and I am looking to move to the Los Angeles area. I am willing to live within 45 miles outside of LA. I am shocked at the cost of rent there! I am looking for a 3 or 4 bedroom 2 or 3 bath house with rent under $1800/month. My 20 year old son will be moving with me. He will be continuing college in CA. I am looking for safe neighborhoods only. Can anyone help or advise. I have to get out of Cleveland. Planning to move before snow in November. Please help.

I don't really know rent prices that well, but I can maybe judge by what I know about purchase costs.

Also, coming from Cleveland and the fact that you want out before snow gives me the idea you hate winter and want hot temperatures. If so, I'd like to suggest Santa Clarita. That is usually my first suggestion for everyone that wants cheap prices in a safe area not far from everything. However, I have read on here that it has gone downhill lately. I haven't been there in a while so I can't comment, but maybe someone else can.

Generally Ventura County is cheaper, but if you live near the border with LA County, everything is still very close.

I don't think I helped too much though because I don't know how much rent is in most places except beach communities where very old, rundown, 1 bedroom/1 bath apartments go for $1800.

Will you be working? If so, what type of work, or if you have a job lined up, where is it?
What activities do you like? Mountains, desert, or ocean?
Does your son have an interest in a particular college?
