Yes, this is the time of year the termite scouts are out looking to start new colonies. They die very quickly if they don't find shelter in some wood. Harmless insects.

I would think a lockable door would be a good thing in a shared rental. I don't know, it doesn't speak much for trusting, but I know I'd prefer it. There may be some fire codes related to this, so that's one thing I'd run by the landlord.

But, the doors absolutely should close and latch properly. AFA screens, in my city rentals must have them on all opening windows. Not just Sec 8 and other programs.

What city?

I know standards vary widely... I'm in the Bay Area and many new homes I've toured with Central Air don't even come with window screens... this is higher end 1m plus... I was surprised.

Code Compliance can cite the owner for defective screens but not for lack of screens...

Section 8 is fairly universal... one screened opening per room, can be a screen door or screened window or ventilated Bathroom in lieu of bathroom window screen.

The only issue that matters is did the Rental Agreement include Landlord supplied screens and/or does the city require screens...

Termites really don't do anything as far as you're concerned, unless you have some wood furniture or something that they got into. This is drywood swarm season, and the early Santa Ana's at the end of this week will produce more swarms. I wouldn't worry about them

Roommate told me the maintenance guy came in to take care of the termites. He just drilled some holes in the wall, sprayed something in the holes, and then patched the holes up. Guess it's a cheaper and more convenient method instead of tenting. Also I just noticed he fixed the bent window screen or somebody did.

Also does anyone know what might cause a carpet to be really rough with a kind of sticky texture on it? The texture feels like there is wax in the carpet. My only guess is that whoever was hired to professionally clean the carpet used too much soap solution.
