I have never heard of any KKK activities in Claremont, someone would ahve to prove that to me...It is a small college town, with lots of trees and a very liberal, progressive feeling. It would remind you in many ways of the east coast except for the weather. I mention liberal. the entire area surrounding Claremont leans conservative so when I say liberal, I do not mean completely so as in some college towns, but certainly more than OC or some of San Gabriel Valley.

Finding employment because of race? or because it is just a difficult economic time? this is an important distinction.

Definitely because of economic situation, not because of race.

That was my point exactly. Race will have nothing to do with you getting hired, but the economic conditions in Calif certainly will, regardless of what you do for a living.
I don't think I quite got your point? Did you think I was referring to race?

Yes. I just misunderstood what you were saying. So is the economic climate so bad that even entry level low pay jobs are hard to come by or just good jobs? for example is the retail sales clerk having hard time? is the guy at McDonald's having a hard time? not that I want to do either of these but I'm willing to do just about anything for a while and I'm just trying to get a feel for how bad it is.

Some might feel this is racism:

Any area that is predominantly white, the more prejudice people could get. That's what it said in an article.

While I believe that the further inland one goes in CA, the less "enlightened" people are, I've never heard of residents of Claremont being any more racially prejudiced than its surrounding communities. It's a wonderful town. My husband went to Claremont Graduate School (although it was over 20 years ago) and the community has a lot to offer. There are certainly more progressively minded people there than those that reside in many other east San Gabriel Valley cities.

There are no employers hiring at any level. Doctors without jobs can not get hired. No one is hiring for baggers at the market, no one is hiring for operating the deep fryer at Mc Donalds.
