Default Is Cerritos a good place for family and schools?

We're moving from Wisconsin and I was just wondering what this area is like. What's the feel of the place? I don't want to feel trapped in a suburb. Are there any downtown areas or something? Thanks!

Cerritos is in a suburban zone, but there is plenty to do there and nearby. There is an indoor mall, an outdoor mall, an excellent library, a very cheap and well kept bus service(COW-Cerritos on Wheels), and its fairly close to Long Beach and Fullerton for more urban areas. It has some great schools, but there are also some decent to poor schools in the area as well(part of the district but in neighboring cities). Cerritos HS is the best regular HS and Whitney is a test-in school that ranks among the best in the nation academically.

where is the job? Based on that comment you'd probably like East Long Beach. Great family neighborhoods but has walkable downtown areas like belmont shore so you certainly won't feel like you're trapped in a suburb.

try belmont park. walkable to main drag of shops, etc with some lovely homes with lots of character.

Since I lived in Cerritos during junior high and high school, to me it's very suburban. It reminds me of Irvine, only it's in L.A. County.
