Moving to LA. Work in Beverly Center, wife studies in Glendale. Where to live?
Hi all,
My wife and me are moving to LA. I have work near the Beverly Center and my wife is studying in Glendale. We have a small daughter, too.
We are looking for a place which is in a safe neighbourhood and which will allow us to keep our commutes under an hour, preferably 30-45 minutes, Our budget is 2000 (2500 max. for something really great) for a 2-3BR condo.
Am I being naive? Would Sherman Oaks or Studio City be a good choice?
Thanks!

Just peruse the Craigslist listings for areas to the east and south of Beverly Hills. You should be able to find something small in that range within a half-hour drive of your work. Don't worry about anything else relative to location because there are no dangerous neighborhoods within a half-hour drive of Beverly Hills and you'll be able to get to the beach, entertainment, etc., fine when you need to, providing you do have a car.

Sherman Oaks is a great choice. Half hour for both of you, give or take. I don't know how old your daughter is but elementary schools in Sherman Oaks are pretty decent such as Riverside Dr. or Sherman Oaks elementary school. You would have to be on the east side of Van Nuys Blvd. to qualify.

Sherman Oaks and Studio City condos/homes for rent in that price range are available but barely. Carpenter School is a big draw. That would place you in a GREAT straight shot commute to Glendale and a little bit longer to Beverly Center. All drive times are determined by when you leave, of course.
