So I guess Seattle, San Francisco, and Portland are all "back East". Tokyo, Paris, London, and Hong Kong are all "back East". God forbid if people actually want to walk to the grocery store instead of having to drive to everything. What an absolutely terrible place LA has become when they *GASP!!*, have the nerve to build apartments on top of commercial buildings. Oh the horror!

LA being car cultured is great for car guys like me!
There is a weekly (Friday night) year-round car shows in the valley at Bob's Big Boy restaurant. Sometimes when I am there during one of the winter months, on one of the more mild evenings (about 65 degrees) I think of people in the cold states who not only can't go out and look at and enjoy classic cars from November to April, but have to store their classic cars during the winter.

No, I think it's better if I find a part of the country more to my liking.

First off, no guts, go glory! And, for starters, you can target your very own neighborhood, prevent it from going south. All it takes is some imagination, cleverness, if you should have to resort to that.
You haven't read about the mass protests they've done in France? And, ironically enough, the President of France recognizes these tactics, to get the attention of the government, as healthy ways for the masses to vent their frustrations, even if it's disruptive to the economy. Our leaders should encourage this likewise.
What do they do in Latin America to bring attention to the government, and have been so successful in doing so?
Yes, they can be disruptive. Last April, in Argentina, road blockades all over the country staged by farmers. It was hard to even get a good steak during that trip, empty shelves in the grocery stores. During these delays out in the countryside, the Argentinians were very apologetic to this American tourist, that I had to experience this on my trip.
Hey! I don't see democracy in action very often where I live, no need to apologize!

Hi there. I just want to say that I am one of the few people who understand your situation. Yes, that is very true when you mention greedy jerks. There are lots of low class people and jerks in LA county unfortunately. There were some times where even I did not like LA and I did not want to live here anymore, so I can totally relate to what you are saying. Why can't people be more understanding when someone is expressing their opinion about a place? In this country, we have a right to speak up don't we? Good luck to you and don't listen to those who think you are being negative

Good luck in your new area cespeed! I LOVE L.A., but I realize it's not for everyone. It's a place you either LOVE or HATE! As much as I love L.A., I can certainly understand and accept why others may not like it. I commend you for actually biting the bullet and getting out if that's what's better for you!

Arkansas, and the rest of the south for that matter is anything but a cultureless wasteland. Much of what is known as "American" music, food and literature just to name a few has its roots in the south. Arkansas is no exception. From Johnny Cash to Glen Campbell to Louis Jordan to all the many great blues artists from Arkansas. I suppose none of that is culture compared to Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan.
