Why not just do a virtual google maps street view tour?
Here's Karl Malden's house for example:

You can get a lot of addresses here:

Heck, there are differences from state to state in driving styles, oh and let's not forgot states that have rotaries!

Not sure what "rotaries!" are. Lots of people from other countries come here everyday, rent a car and drive around LA and southern California quite easily. And lots of people from our country go abroad and drive around, it's really not that difficult.
To the OP, if you want to come here, rent a car and tour our fair land please do so, we need the income from foreign visitors. If you want to take a tour of celebrity homes I do think it's best to take one of the organized tour buses. You can sit back and enjoy the ride and get the "scoop" from your tour guide.

The poster wasn't asking about renting a car in general; he or she was asking about driving around to see celebrity homes. I think it would be difficult, or at least stressful, for most people to drive around on winding roads up in the hills (among other places) looking for specific addresses. Juggling the map, tour guide, looking for street signs, AND enjoy the drive (and actually see something) seems like it would take any enjoyment out of the experience. As far as driving around in general, I think the OP will probably be fine, assuming he or she doesn't mind driving in unfamiliar situations and doesn't get stressed easily.

A rotary is similar to the Autoban in Germany and other European countries where you go around in a circle until you find the proper exit. It's also called a roundabout. If you have never driven one it can be pretty hairy!
