Woodland Hills or Sherman Oaks? (Santa Monica, Agoura Hills: apartment complex, rentals, condos)

Sorry for another "where to live in LA" question, but everyone seems very helpful so here goes:

Two questions, actually:

*I'm moving from out of state and will be working in Westlake Village. I'm young, single, and rent isn't too much of an issue. Research so far shows Sherman Oaks and Woodland Hills look like the best bet to balance nightlife/things to do, and commute. Is that right, or am I overlooking any better options?

*Does anyone know of any newer/modern complexes in SO or WH? I've seen a few online (Magnolia at Sherman Oaks, Triana, Carillon), but haven't seen anything good, bad or otherwise about them. Advice?

Not a big nightlife in the Valley I am afraid. Lot's of dining options and a few small publike clubs with music. Not sure where you are moving from, but the Valley is not known for an exciting nightlife and everything is pretty dead during the week.
Good place to live if you are single is Warner Center. It's like a city within the Valley. High rises, restaurants, lot's of shopping, movies and parks to walk to. I don't know if there are any clubs to dance anymore in the Valley or Warner Center to tell you the truth.
Westlake Village makes you feel safer and it is and has a few club venues where big name acts play like in Agoura and possibly in Westlake but these are bedroom communities so it is a bit quiet. You would find really nice rentals in Westlake right by the water within walking distance to the Westlake Promenade, shopping, movies...just like Warner Center without the high rise buildings or city feel. Where is WLV will you be working?

Given where you plan on working (Westlake Village), I think you have picked two good spots. That said, I think SHERMAN OAKS is the BETTER option of the two for a young single person. Of course, it's also a longer commute than Woodland Hills.

There are several newer (good quality) apartment complexes in the Warner Center area (which is really a part of Woodland Hills). I think one is called the Pointe.

Sherman Oaks does not have as many new complexes because it's a more established area (read: it got built out years ago so there is not much new land). That said, you can find some nice places to rent (apartment, condos, etc). However, they tend to be smaller properties as compared to the larger "institutional" complexes you'll find in the Warner Center/Woodland Hills area.

You might try looking up Amalfi at Sherman Oaks. I think that is one larger apartment complex in a very good location. Building is probably 20 yrs old but probably still in good condition.....

Yes, Sherman Oaks and Woodland Hills are much more "boring" than the rest of LA proper (read: Hollywood, Santa Monica, etc). However, SHerman Oaks is a very nice community and very well located for a young single person.

I've lived in both Sherman Oaks and Woodland Hills. Sherman Oaks tend to be for the younger crowd, while Woodland Hills is more family oriented. WH is definitely a lot closer to Westlake Village than Sherman Oaks. Woodland Hills reminds me of a more suburban, get to know your neighbor community, moreso than S.O.

If I may over generalize, I'd say S.O. is more tied to Studio City and Hollywood; while W.H. is more closely connected with Agoura Hills and Westlake Village. Very different types of people.

Lucky you, you have a reverse commute each day! For nightlife and attractions you'll be heading along Ventura Blvd either way. Not nearly as much to do as there is in the 323/310, but def more than in Westlake Village. I'd personally want to minimize the commute as much as possible and would look more toward Woodland Hills/Calabasas. You could also compromise and go for Tarzana!
