I may be moving to Long Beach, as I'm possibly getting a job there. What are decent areas that are somewhat affordable? I'm a single woman in my mid 20s and want to steer clear of any ghetto areas, but it needs to be a 1 bd/ba under $1,000 a month for rent.

I currently live in Oldtown Temecula, and I love being able to walk/bike to little cafes and shops too, so that's a plus if there's any apartments near areas like that.

What is the area around Redondo Ave and 10th St like? I have a friend who lives there and has great rent and she says it's not ghetto. I have another friend who lives near Belmont Heights and she has surprisingly affordable rent. I'd room with one of them but they have 1 bd/ba apartments.

Thanks.

Belmont Shore, Downtown, and the areas inbetween would be the first places to check. Belmont Heights is mostly fine. 10th and Redondo isn't too far from there either(believe that area is called Alamitos Heights) and is decent I guess. Gets worse as you head west though. As far as walkability, those places are walkable, but less-so than Belmont Shore or Downtown. 7th Street and Redondo(from 7th south, mostly closer to 4th street and stuff for things other than grocery and such) are both streets that have amenities for the areas you're friends are in

Generally the further east the better. The further south the better. Maybe look for something around 4th and Redondo where retro row starts.. In this market you may even be able to find something in Belmont heights/shore. I suggest driving around and also checking out Gazettes Town-News > Front

Long Beach is great. The walkability, interesting shops, cafes, etc. are great. Welcome...

Try the California Heights area (the area on Spring Street next to the Boeing plant) or the Downtown.

It's not on Spring. It's N of Wardlow Rd, W of Cherry, S of Bixby Rd and E of Atlantic. Orange Ave runs down the middle. Not that many apts in the area and nothing much within walking distance. Biking maybe. Bixby Knolls (next door neighborhood) has more stores, etc and apts.

I agree with staying in the Belmont areas for what the OP was seeking. +1 on on the Gazzette. Get it the day it comes out, in the morning preferably.

Most of the middle areas in Long Beach south of the 405 are just plain nasty. Don't even drive thru them unless you have to and not at night.

What's wrong with the middles areas? Are you referring to Signal Hill or the central part where alamitos ave run through the "Hood?" That area next to Anaheim and Alamitos is pretty run down, but there are a lot of Cambodian-owned businesses along the Anaheim corridor. You can get sandwiches and Pho in one block.

stay south of 7th street. near drake park is nice and affordable. the community there is passionte about restoring historic victorian homes. They are called the wilmore district or society. Some of them rent and help fix the homes up themselfs. I lived in long beach and each street is different from the next. The city is trying really hard to clean things up.

I've got a 1br/1ba house apartment for rent $850.00/month on 4th and Alamitos. It's a block and a half from MOLAA, not the best but not the worst and plenty of parking on premises.

I recommend the 4th and Alamitos place for $850. You'll have more money to save or spend. 4th and Alamitos is on the northern edge of Alamitos Beach and the western end of the 4th St. corridor. You can walk to Downtown, the beach, and retro row. Plus that's right next to one of the best single bars in the area, the V Room.
