The 80's were like a dream. I was too young for any bars or clubs....but so many good memories.

-Went to the '84 Olympics at Pepperdine University (water polo) when I was 6. Good times.
-Buying Garbage Pail kids at Santa Monica place.
-The old Santa monica place foodcourt (round table pizza and others I'm forgetting).
-Trick or treating at sm place and westside pavillion. They'd start handing candy out at 3 or 4 pm.

-Uncle Johns in SM.
-Flakey Jakes on pico and sepulveda (use to have back to school nights there).
-Big Yellow House in summerland.
-Westwood Villiage (I remember seeing Home Alone there).
-Fox Hills Mall was fun (remember when they had the arcade and Carls Jr in the corner by JC Penny). They had a Nintendo store on the other side.

-Larry Parkers in Beverly Hills (remember their huge menu?)
-Went to a Dodger playoff game in 88 vs the mets.

-The old century city mall, with brentanos book store. There use to be a Bob's Big Boy there.
-There was a show on KTLA in the 80's, it was on sunday afternoons. It was KTLA's sunday afternoon movies, or something like that. It was hosted by an older man (I think he was into cartoons or animation?). Not sure of his name.

-Also the Rose Parade in Pasenda. My family went after the parade was over for a few years. You use to be able to get in for free and see the floats. Not sure if they do that anymore.

-Westwood arcade in Marina Del Rey. Spent many saturday's there.

I have a picture posed in the exact same spot Charles, minus the tube socks.
To John23, I think the host of the Saturday afternoon kids or movie show was Tom Hatten. Loved him as a kid. He came to my Elementary School and gave me a picture he drew on the spot of Popeye. Nicest guy.

Maybe if you are a guy! I can barely remember what girls wore? Mini skirts, granny dresses, paisley tops, fringe purses, jackets, mocassins, lot's of flowery print dresses, skin tight jeans like today worn really low (and kids don't think we were ever cool). Yep, pretty ugly stuff. The Farrah Fawcett haircut was the biggest thing of the 70's for females.

Great photo! I never could figure out how those short, tight shorts caught on for boys and men (of all ages) in the 1980's. I have to laugh at all our family photos. The OP brand was big. Did they catch on because basketball stars wore them?

Mini skirts and paisley tops were more or less early 70s(1970 to 1973). That period was basically still like the late 60s.

Don't have much to add to the above venue lists.

Something I didn't see listed was the onset of Fudrucker's and Red Robin which was quite a novelty at the time (now, just another couple of overblown chains). Also, Trader Joe's was still limited to SoCal.

Then there was radio:

KROQ, 91X when you could tune it in, then more mainstream, KLOS, KMET and if a bit more in a bubble gum mood, KIIS (or was it KISS, I just remember the "Kiss FM" blabber). Lots of cool college stations as well ...

Tom Hatten, thanks. I think I asked about it on a movie board, but forgot the answer. I'm going to save the name now.

I remember him being connected with popeye. As a kid, I wasn't sure if he played Popeye or not (maybe earlier in his career). But he seemed like a real nice guy. That was a very relaxing time for television. I remember spending weekends watching The New Yankee Workshop, Painting with The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. A lot of good relaxing shows with nice hosts.

Some other 80's memories...

-Baskin Robbins Ice cream and Swenson's ice cream. Does anyone remember the swensons ice cream in the marina del rey marketplace? It was on the corner where the FED EX Kinko's is now. I went there in 3rd grade for a party.

-The drive in movie theater in culver city! You could see movies from the street. That was always interesting to me as a kid, that you could watch movies for free basically. And the Bobs Big Boy nearby.
