Did you happen to notice the stripes on the road? If you look closely, there is no yellow stripe down the center of the roadway. This is one of the things I learned from model railroading of that era.
These pictures are cool. I love to see the valley when it was not so crowded. Thanks for the " nostalgia" (that's the title of a thread I started in the California forum a while back about the same thing, but without the photos).

West San Fernando Valley 1963
Found this great photo of the west San Fernando Valley looking west 1963. The brown four story building about in the middle of the photo is on the southeast corner of Canoga and Victory. Topanga Plaza is under construction couple of blocks west of the four story building on the north side of Victory. Notice there is absolutely nothing on the left side of the photo in what 15 or so years later became Warner Center.

LA looks like the outer suburban areas of Ohio cities in that picture!

"Back to the Future"
That picture of Montrose in the 1950s reminds me of the original "Back to the Future" movie starring Michael J. Fox.
I couldn't help but notice that in the Mt. Baldy picture, that most of the people standing around were white.
It's good to see how things were here in the L.A. area back then, before "progress" took over.

When I came to OC in 1975 I remember the orange groves everywhere. It used to be paradise, not anymore. Massive immigration and cookie cutter development since that time has destroyed this place.

I think my parents paid $18K for about 1300 sqft back in 1962. Today that house is selling for around $500K (ranchers in the neighborhood NW of Saticoy and Fallbrook). That's more than 25 times more than they paid.

Those pictures are great!!! (esp the 1st one)I would really love to see more. I grew up in Agoura (now Agoura HILL$) off Kanan/101. We moved there in '73. My Parents paid 36,500. The house appraised for over 900,000 recently. I'd love to see more pics of 'old valley' if anybody has 'em? Old Simi before freeway went through? Corriganville? Indian Dunes? ....you know what Im talkin' about! Thanks

Google CSUN San Fernando Valley Digital History for an awesome photo database. Search for Calabasas and see photos of 101 before it was a freeway.
Also find the photo database at the Los Angeles Public Library.
