Default Question on Lake Hollywood Neighborhood

I have recently expanded my search for buying/renting a home to the Lake Hollywood area. I am not sure what the area on the west side of Cahuenga is formally called, but if you were to drive north on Highland, past the Hollywood Bowl, it turns into Cahuenga and eventually passes through Universal City and turns into Ventura. So after you pass Mulholland Drive and before you reach Universal City, there are lots of nice homes tucked away in that area. In addition, if you take Cahuenga north and make a right on Barham, there are some nice houses on both sides of Barham, which is where the Hollywood Reservoir is.

Basically I was hoping to get some opinions on current/former residents of these areas, or people who have good knowledge of these areas.

It appears that the LAUSD schools for these neighborhoods are all in Hollywood, and don't have the greatest reputations. Would would be popular private school options in the area, without having to drive 10+ miles?

Thanks!
