Default Do you think the LAPD is getting more vigilant?

Problems found with some LAPD probes of officers' alleged bias -- latimes.com

In this article it said that the LAPD is now engaging in "bias" profiling, not just racial. It can also be based on gender and sexual orientation. Hope the new chief turns things around.

Where in LA is the LAPD more likely to engage in "bias" profiling?

Do you trust the police? What are your personal experiences with the LAPD? Do you call the LAPD when something happens to you?

I am thankful to live in an area that is not patrolled by LAPD, so I haven't have much interaction with them.

With that being said, I try not to judge on things that I am unfamiliar with. I have no idea how hard of a job it is to work in law enforcement - I would think that cops profile CRIMINALS before anything else.

trust is a relative concept, a cop more than a gangbanger or a CDF felon poster?
you betcha.
police profiling is not against the law. citizens also deserve protection, not just gangbangers.

I really don't trust too many people, even though I've never had personal experiences with the LAPD or any law enforcement (being a young black man with his own car).

Do you think there's any place in the city for a minority to live with no police profiling?

The LAPD is one of the few police departments in the greater LA area who aren't afraid of the criminals and don't go running the other way when the bad guys start shooting or show their teeth. I have to disagree and say that for all its worts, the LAPD is far more likely to protect you, and do so competently, than a fair number of other southern California police departments who are actually afraid of the bad guys. LA County Sherriff deputies aren't afraid of the baddies, either.

The LAPD has certainly changed for the better since Chief Bratton arrived [too bad he left for a private job]. The police dept has a history of inept behavior that cost the city big time. Rodney King incident triggered riots. May Day over reaction made LADP look goofy again. But the drop in crime over the past 8 yrs has been significant and Los Angeles is a much safer city compared to other large cities.

I don't see what is wrong with profiling as long as it's based on statistical analysis

SMPD is great from all dealings with them. They respond fast, are very professional, and very well equipped. I know a few of those guys, and they really have their stuff together.
