I am considering a move to LA. I'd like to live close enough to the beach (3 miles or so) with a reasonable commute and living expenses (hoping for around $1400 or less for a 1-bedroom apt. in a decent area). One job option may be in Culver City so based on that I'm considering Mar Vista or Playa Vista which I hear are decent areas and also are close enough to the beach and appear to allow for a reasonable commute of only 2-3 miles to Culver City. How long would this commute typically take and is it possible to find a decent apartment in those areas in my budget? I'm not sure which areas are super expensive and what not so does anyone have any alternatives that would meet the commute and price range I'm looking for? Thanks so much!

Oh, BTW, I am in my mid-20s and would like to live in an area with other young professionals and entertainment options nearby.

Yes, I would probably do that, but I'm not sure if the roads there would have sidewalks or what not. Also I would probably want to drive on some days so that's why I wanted to know how long it would take.

Hi,

The roads all have sidewalks between Mar Vista, Playa, and Culver City, but those are easy drives. Lots of alternate routes, and not bad traffic most times anyway. I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the rents, but I loved living in Mar Vista, and went to the beach in Playa often and visiting friends in Culver City, so I've driven those routes regularly. Good luck.

Depends what part of CC, and what part of MV/PV.

There is a great bike path that goes all the way from Marina Del Rey under Centinela, Sawtelle, the 405, Sepulveda, Overland, and basically into the heart of Culver City - it's about a 15 minute ride from Playa Vista.

Otherwise, the commute is anywhere from about 10 to 20-30 minutes tops...Jefferson or Washington both are not too bad in the mornings - the east/west commute isnt nearly as bad as the north/south (Sepulveda, 405, Overland,)

I live in Playa Vista and work in Century City...it's about 40 minutes by car, but I ride a Vespa and it takes me 21.
