Default Lounge bars in LA for NYE

Hi All,

I haven't partied in LA for over 4 years now ever since I left LA in 2006. I am totally out of the scene. I know everywhere in LA is going to be packed with people on NYE, so I want to prepare early.

Where is a good location/lounge where there's a diverse group of people and a good mixture of females and males, and not overly crowded where you can't make ways to the restroom. Contemporary and upscale place (a place comes to mind is like Standard) that plays electronic dance music/indie electro/rock would be a major plus.

Really appreciated!

I can't speak to the exact music but here are a few lounges that seem to meet your other criterion (although on New Year's eve anyplace could be "packed"):

Stone Rose Lounge, West Hollywood
Standard, Downtown LA
East Rest. & Lounge, Hollywood
LAX, Hollywood
Viceroy Hotel, Santa Monica

What about a location where bar hopping is easy? Is the Sunset and Vine still a good place to do this?

Thanks.

main st in santa monica has a number of bars that should fit your criteria. however, you should probably be prepared to pay a cover whether going to main st or anywhere else for that matter. some places may not have a cover on a typical fri/sat night, but will charge on NYE because they can.

Actually, Hollywood and Vine to be more precise. There are also a lot of bars/clubs on Cauhenga (just south of Hollywood Blvd) which is within easy walking distance of Hollywood and Vine.
