Personally I don't think that weath equates to one being pretentious nor to one being phony. I do feel that if you're in your 20's and still living with your parent's or your parent's are still supporting you, you can't possibly know what it is like to live in the "real world".
When we lived in LA we were fortunate enough to have some very wealthy friends help us out. They sub-leased their daughter's apartment to us (for half the price) and paid for the utilities. Would I call these friends pretentious because they had money? No way, nor would I judge anyone for being pretentious because they have a significant amount of money. It's the attitude around the money that leaves a cause for judgement. Would one call it jealousy? I wouldn't, to me being jealous means that someone is envious of another. I moved out of LA and have no desire to go back, I'm certainly not jealous of those living there, nor those living there with "wealth".
As for Amy I hope that she can learn to support herself and learn the value of money. I've seen far too many young people living the LA "lifestyle" and learn later that there is more to life than money and things
Just wanted to clear a few things up. This has been fun, I'm glad I was able to play along.

I think people who lable wealthy people as such, are just either jealous, or hate the fact that there are people winning in the game of life more than they are.
It's everywhere I go (outside) of wealthy areas. For example, I had went to Ikea with my mother. When we were loading our stuff in my mother's Range Rover...people were giving us the eye, as if we were their enemies.
I though to myself, "these people are either jealous, or they hate the fact that we're in a Range Rover and they're not."
Sorry, but I love being in a financially blessed position in life... And the correct statement is "the love of money is the root of all evil," which I agree with, because if you are in love with money, then you'll do anything to get it.

Well I knew that someone would throw out the jeolousy card! It was inevetable, the wealthy always come out with the same mundane response "oh, they are jealous of me". Well you are wrong, I am definately not jealous of you, give me enough to take care of the necessities in life and that is good. I guess it depends on how someone is raised by their parents. As for the original post "are LA people phony and pretentiouss" yes they are, just look at some of the posters on here, but I will admit there are pretetious people in most cities in america, it's just that in South California people have more self esteem issues and have to show it off

Then maybe you better stick to the Texas forums and leave us pretentious, phony people alone. Why are you trolling our CA forums anyway??? In every thread I've had the misfortune to encounter you, you are always spewing out your hatred of anything non-Texas or pro-California and leaving negative rep points for anyone who disagrees with your opinions. Refresh our memories please - why are you in our California forums again???

I have visited south calif. a number of times and have some family that lived there and moved much to their happiness! Also, my only negative posts are toward south calif. and south florida. Trolling is not someone who is giving an opinion, or what you do in the Texas forums would be trolling too! You and several others try to paint a greatly exagerated picture of south calif. that attempts to draw others into that place. I offer my own esperiences of it and you get offended because I point out realities a number of others have already pointed out.

Just because you have visited here or have some family here does not make you an expert on California. With regard to the Texas forums - I lived there so I believe that qualifies me to at least state my experiences with Texas. So you don't like my Texas experiences? Neither did I. That's why I posted them - to let people potentially moving there decide if the place is for them. Personally I could care less where people move to - whether it be to TX or CA or anywhere else. I am totally happy to be in CA and no amount of your sour-puss negativity or giving me negative rep points is EVER going to take that away from me - so get over it already. I don't really care what you think about CA inasmuch as you shouldn't be so concerned or give a rats ass about what I think of Texas.

After reading the last few pages of this thread, I've reached the conclusion that this thread has served its purpose. Thank you, everyone, for contributing.
