Fattest in the country? Are you serious? Most of the people that I know are all health conscious and have great bodies. Image is important in L.A. and I think when you stop worrying about your body (internal and external) then that's when you gain uncontrolled weight and become unhealthy.
I stay in shape because I want too, for myself. Looking good is just as important as staying healthy. At least to me.
And fast-food joints are in every major city, ever been to Atlanta, Chicago, N.Y., Houston, etc...

You must only get to see one side of the city then... I spend the bulk of my time on the west-side of town. Try visiting Beverly Hills (where I live), Santa Monica, Westwood, West Hollywood, Marina Del-Rey, Pacific Palisades and take a stroll to Malibu, even Calabasas, or far north as Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks... And I'll bet my beemer that there are more fit people, than fat ones.

You got me all Wrong!
Moonsavvy, you think I'm the epitome of pretentiousness for L.A., don't you? Like I said in my earlier post, I am 21 years-old, finished school 2 years early. I work in the movie industry, and I live in Beverly Hills. For a 21 year-old, that's pretty amazing, don't you think? And yes I am blond and thin, and play volleyball on the beach, and yes I shop at the Beverly Center, Rodeo Drive and the South Coast plaza... I drive a nice car, and wear designer fashions...
I love my life, but that doesn't mean I am phony, just like it doesn't mean that other people in L.A. in a comparable lifestyle as mine's are phony. Get over the stereotype. And just so people know that I do look the part, I posted my pic below... This is not to puff up myself, but just to show everyone that real people with great lives exist in L.A.
Amy

These posts prove there are two Los Angeles's: one for the few elite, and one for the rest of us who are struggling hand to mouth. This isn't judgmental, it's purely observational, and the objectivity of same is addressed over and over, as with the posts above.
I would NEVER have chosen to live in a slum of nasty, mean-spirited, violent foreign nationals, but since my income dictated low-to-moderate expenditure, that's where we live. It was okay a decade and a half ago, but the area's residents were replaced with nasty, mean-spirited, violent foreign nationals about half a decade after we moved here, as with the rest of L.A.'s demographics for the non-wealthy, unsafe areas.
If you move to Los Angeles without means, connections, net-working, what have you, you will live in a terrible area. Yes, one can work one's way out, but there aren't really any middle class-affordable, or family-safe areas in L.A. for what the rest of the nation considers middle-class.
There's the Holmby Hills, San Marino, Malibu Colony world of the well-heeled, and Pacoima, Panorama City, Willowbrook world of the hardscrabble. Any middle-class area in L.A. is purely vestigial from purchases decades ago, and doomed to extinction with the current demographics. I see both stereotypes of people: fit in the rich areas, fat in the rest of it.
Back to topic, Amyluvver, not the best idea to post that much personal information about yourself on a public forum. There's a difference between self assurance and throwing caution to the wind online. I knew someone on a mere tv/movies chat who attracted a real, live stalker who found her, despite so-called online anonymity, and it was a frightening experience for her.
Lastly, pretentiousness is quite provincial in our nation. In the South, announcers and commentators suddenly lose their Southern drawl when the red light comes on in the studio, or beef it up for effect. Phony, yes, but necessary to remain personally marketable for their business. Just like plastic surgery here!

I'm not pulling anyone's legs... I guess I'm just blessed enough to be living the true "L.A. lifestyle." Seriously, my life is like the lifestyle you'd see on the MTV show "The Hills."
I'm not bragging, I'm just stating facts! I'm totally not into boastful people, but the truth is the truth.

When I went to UCLA I lived near the Brentwood, Beverly Hills area and actually Amyluv's story is the way of life around there. It just sounds like she is happy about where she is. It's hard to tell whether anyone is pretentious until you take them out of their environment.
For example, if they visit a ranch in Oklahoma, will they look down on the hard working farmers and find it disgusting to step out of their luxury car and be seen photographed helping to toss bales of hay into a rusty old pickup?
In general I have seen more pretentious types in Santa Monica, I am not sure why.
