Default decent L.A. areas for a single female

I'm a single, mid-twenties female looking to move to L.A. to work in editing/post-production for tv or movies. I'm from Chicago and have visited L.A. so I know it's a lot different. I'm currently living in not the greatest area in Chicago, but it's convenient to many places so I know of the pros and cons. Now though, I'm looking for a relatively normal neighborhood that's not too close to the Hollywood tourist trap, not too far from studios or possible workplaces, where there's some form of outside space/park nearby, or where I could walk to bars sometimes. I'm used to shady neighborhoods, but it's not what I prefer really. I'm going to have to share a place and I think I only handle a 1200/month 2-bedroom. The areas I'm looking at are Atwater Village, Silverlake, Los Feliz (though more expensive) or possible Glendale and Burbank. Any suggestions for new areas to look or advice about the ones I'm mentioned?

You mentioned some good areas. I think for your budget, I'd stick with Atwater Village and Silverlake out of the places you listed. There seriously is not much to do as far as night life in Burbank or Glendale. Those are the places you move when you're tired of the nightlife and you manage to land a guy (and GOOOOOOD LUCK on that one) and get married and want to have kids. You'd also have an easy time getting to work at Warner Bros, NBC and any post-prod facilities in Burbank without having to live there.

I'd also suggest Mid-Wilshire and Miracle Mile. Miracle Mile is probably the most centrally located for nightlife/culture/restaurants, but it's also the pricier option (but you could totally make it work). Mid-Wilshire is the area immediately east of Miracle Mile (just keep heading down Wilshire, when you hit Wilton, you're there). It's literally in between Downtown LA (where there's some fun and increasingly cool stuff to do), and Miracle Mile (which also happens to be Beverly Hills adajcent).

You can find a nice place, you might not need a roommate (assuming you don't actually want one!), you can walk around or take the Red Line to fun and interesting places (just don't do it at night) and you if you look hard enough, you just might find a place with all utilites included (that's my deal and good gracious, do I love it).

Thanks for the advice, I think Atwater and Silverlake are my main choices. I figured Glendale/Burbank were sleepy, but they are somewhat cheaper generally, but I've been able to find cheaper stuff all over the more I look.
