Talking Where is Canyon Country? Santa Clarita people please help me!

My family will be moving to SC and we're looking for an apartment/townhouse/house to rent while our home in Texas is being sold. I've read lots on the forums already and keep hearing some negative things about Canyon Country but i cant seem to distinguish where that is. Any help would be appreciated!

Canyon Country is the Eastern and North Eastern half of Santa Clarita. Immediately west of Canyon Country lies Valencia and Saugus. My mom got robbed at the Stater Bros supermarket parking lot, so it's not exactly the safest place to be. Saugus tends to be a safer community in SCV. I used to walk to and from school and never had any problems. The funny thing is NO ONE walks in SCV. Everyone drives to get around, even if it's just down the block.

Let me make sure I have this straight. You have a home in Texas that you are selling and when you do you are moving to SC but in the meantime, you want to live in Ca.????? Just wondered why you would make a temporary move all the way to Ca. before another big move to SC? Doesn't this effect your work, school, etc?

I think he meant "Southern California" by the "SC". Santa Clarita is about the safest city in Los Angeles county.

Ok, let me clear that up sorry. I currently live in East Texas. My husband has taken a job in Santa Clarita, CA and he will leave to move there tomorrow (i will follow in a month or so) He will be finding an apartment in Santa Clarita to rent so that we can live there before we are able to purchase a home there. We cant buy a home in California until our house in Texas sells.

I have found several apartments/townhouses online and some are listed as Santa Clarita and some as Canyon Country but when i look on the map it's a very vague area and I’m not sure where Santa Clarita ends and where Canyon Country ends. This is the location of the one i like.. any help would be appreciated.... (Mirabelle Lane Santa Clarita CA).

I have not been able to find a city listing on this website for Canyon Country as well to check statistics on that area. I want to be in a "safe" area, frankly moving to California scares the crud out of me. My husband is an engineer and i am a 911 operator, we have 11 & 9 yr old boys. We've been in Texas almost 3 years but we're from the greater Seattle area.

It is confusing. Generally if you were to say Santa Clarita and if you were to say Newhall, Saugus, Canyon Country and Valencia belonged to it then most people would agree. That street you listed (Mirabelle) is in a newly developed area off Plum Canyon and I don't know what you would call it but I would tend to call it Canyon Country. I know someone who lives there and likes it fine. I know if I lived there I would tend to turn left on Plum and left on Bouquet to go into Valencia as opposed to right on Plum which turns to Whites and into Canyon Country as I consider that area much less desireable. I don't think I would feel afraid to walk around though anywhere in this whole area. Wildfires have come close to that area and it will take you longer to get to stuff as is is a bit further in there.

Santa Clarita is great if you are conservative politically, like a long drive to the city, like the windy mountain passes. Canyon Country is the least favorable part of Santa Clarita Valley. It is an inexpensive neighborhood.
If you have horses, then nearby Acton is small and very western.

Since your spouse will be working in Santa Clarita then by all means living there could be great. It is a hike from any culture like museums, theatre, art galleries, but the landscape is pretty is a rustic way.

Hope this helps.

I've seen parts of Canyon Country that are nice, but some neighborhoods (especially the older ones) are not too attractive. I don't feel unsafe spending time there. The quality of the neighborhoods probably matches up with the schools; I would go to greatschools.org and check out the performance of the local schools as well as parent reviews, then go from there.

I live in Acton, and it's a great little town for families. My mom teaches at High Desert School (middle school), and my daughter is in 8th grade there. The teachers are great. Acton has a sense of community, the neighbors are nice, it's very safe, and lots of people have horses.
