I hope I'm not missing something, 'cause I will proby be moving in a few months (for a new job) and don't want to spend >$1000. Want my own small single or large studio. tnx.
wait til you actually see those you think are in decent neighborhoods etc. Remember, specially in large cities, one block can make a difference.

I've lived in 3 cities in the last 4 years. For the last 3 I spent tons of time looking at apts on craigslist before arriving on the ground to really look. Based on pix, and descriptions, I find Hollywood area not so crazy expensive. For example, If you want to live in one of the boroughs of NYC because they're more affordable, you'd get less than LA. Those are places that are fairly rough around the edges but not at all dangerous and pretty hip for all ages.

I want to live maybe in Los Feliz. I see a very nice place posted today in the
1900s of N Vermont. Something wrong with that area? All the places in Los Feliz and all the buildings in Hollywood that aren't luxury seem to have $1100 for studio or 1 bdrm. Of course some of those are in bad areas-- in those cases they seem to cost less? I'd love to hear more feedback on this.

My daughter and her bf originally thought they wanted to live in Silverlake/Las Feliz so that's where they went looking their first day in LA. What they found was that things varied from street to street, with some places in their budget being in an industrial area or whatever. Not quite the "hip" thing they had thought. But the good news is that they found something in their budget in an another area. I'm sure you can find something, just have some savings, moving into an apt can be expensive.
