You know Chicago is bad when they start calling it "Chiraq" and the city has more homicides than LA or NYC. During the holidays like 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day, you can almost guarantee there will be higher than average shootings. Gary, IN (aka Michael Jackson's home) is completely blighted. They had a buy for $1.00 a home in Gary, IN.
Fire sale in Gary, Indiana: Homes for $1 - Aug. 20, 2013
Even South Central LA homes don't go for $1.
$1, about 15 years the Rollin 60s evicted a homeowner on my route a few months later the then crack house was a murder scene. The house went back on the market for $300,000. This is close to where Football Williams got paroled to. Even with a recent killing over red shoe laces near the area I wonder what prices are now?

Being a midwesterner and being used to Chicago and Detroits thugs and stories of murder I found even the worst areas of Los Angeles nowhere near the filth of the midwest's vagrant areas. Not to mention ours are also plagued by horrible weather conditions and homeless people actually being found frozen to death.
You forgot South Dallas. Far nastier than Compton.

I heard Compton is mostly middle class Latinos now and not that dangerous. I never been so I am just saying that I have heard about it. I did go to Long Beach and it was really nice, I didn't see much drama in the LBC, sorry Snoop.

????? Snoop never discussed struggles growing up and living in Long Beach in his music the way N.W.A. did with Compton in their music.

Most of the worst ghettos on earth are in tropical or subtropical climes, with, yes, grass, and often palm trees.

What does a tree type have to do with whether an area is ghetto?

The LBC has nearly half a million people. There are ghetto parts and nice parts. You were probably in the nice parts.

I guess we are just talking about the overall visual look of the area. As long as the tagging crews and gangsters putting up their signs are not totally out of control most of South Central LA looks nice compared to the slums of the world. I was just checking Zillow and I may have inflated the prices in my memory but its still takes a quarter of a million dollars to buy a home in our ghetto.
