Hello all!

I will be working in West Hills (at the hospital) very soon, relocating from Jacksonville FL and Chicago IL (due to my crazy job relocations and overlapping leases I have 2 apartments and am paying through the nose for rent. Grr) I'm wondering which areas I should look into or specific apartment communities/buildings to check out or avoid. I'm looking for a one bedroom place at or below $1300/mo in a safe area with parking and half hour or less commute to the hospital. Whats the nicest place/area I can get for that money?

I really appreciate your advice and look forward to reading your replies. Thanks

I live right near West Hills and used to be a patient at West Hills Hospital =D
It's a pretty nice area and you could definitely get a 1 bedroom for 1300. Other areas you could look at that are nice and nearby are Woodland Hills, Warner Center, and Calabasas. All are within 30 minutes away.

Work these:

HousingMaps and
MapsKrieg - CraigsList Apartment Listings Mashed With Google Maps

I grew up a couple blocks from West Hill hospital. It is mostly single story ranch style homes built in the 1950s and 1960s. You might want to look at apartments in Warner Center (might be expensive). There are apartments east of WHH but east of Topanga gets a little sketchy, maybe not dangerous but not as pretty - ugly power lines, billboards, etc. I don't think there are many apartments west or north of WHH. Calabasas and Woodland Hills are pretty nice.

I am in Woodland Hills near West Hills and I dont think Ive seen any apartment buildings there. Charles' advice was the best, look for apartments in Warner Center or the new apartment buildings I believe are Canoga Park address which is just behind Borders near the Orange line station.

I've seen a couple of apartments in West Hills, although I can't remember where specifically.

Just know that if you find something in West Hills, the whole area is pretty nice.

Canoga Park is another story...

There are apartments in West Hills and all over Canoga Park (the part of CP that is closer to West Hills is actually nice imo). I think some decent to nice ones were on Sherman Way and Valley Circle.

There is no such intersection.

Thanks for all the tips, I really appreciate it I'm actually excited to move now, although I have heard that it's difficult to make friends in the LA area... is this true?
