I'm a black woman living in the North Hollywood area and have NEVER had a problem with latinos being nasty or negative. In fact, it's been quite the opposite. The men won't leave me alone, the women and children are very friendly. I can't tell you where the ghettos or gang members are, because I've never seen any personally, but according to LAPD and the Mayor they are 45,000 strong.

Just stay away from Compton and Crenshaw areas - pure, pure ghetto. It's like they dropped the worst of the worst in these neighborhoods and kept walking. Long Beach has a bad history too.

Most of latinos in the Valley (San Fernanando) are Central American (El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, etc.) and are very cool. Sadly, it's the Mexican AMERICANS you have to look out for, but it's not rampant killings of black folks like the papers would have you believe.

Is Los Angeles safe for Blacks? Only if you can afford to live in West Los Angeles, Santa Monica or Malibu. Oh, and before you drive on the 405, have your windows tinted and stay in the fast lane. That way you will not have to worry about being attacked on both sides.

Good luck

Default It depends on where you live?

We live in a very nice area of Long Beach ,Bixby Knolls. You would feel really comfortable here. Our area is very mixed. I come from the Bronx, New York and feel safe here. There are sections of LA that there are issues with this, especially in some High Schools. Just do your homework on the area you are going to select to live. Good Luck!

There is no place in LA that is immune to random violence.

I'm not too familiar with South Central, Compton and other bad areas, but if you can afford to, stay in Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Marina Del-Rey, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Westwood, even Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Encino... I live in Beverly Hills and of course the only thing that matters is $$$$. People could care less if you are black, white, brown, red or yellow.

And the race vs' race thing is totally pathetic. Like any of us had a choice how we'd look, once we were born. Sometimes humans are truly the devil in disguise. What a shame!

It's 2007! Agree that we're the same and live life joyfully.

Amy

Just listen to the sane, balanced posters on here and you'll be fine. Violence can happen anywhere in the world, and L.A. is one of the biggest cities in the world. That being said, live in a safe area, and you should be fine. In general, like other posters have said, avoid south-central and east L.A. I would also in general stay out of Long Beach, although there are pockets of nice neighborhoods there.

Don't listen to the paranoid posters on here. The media always focuses on the worst because it sells. It's not that bad, everywhere, all the time, or no one would live in So Cal at all!

Good luck!

[You should not make light of a horrible situation going on in America, black on black crime in large cities, politicians, black leaders act if this so called problem does not exist, take the shields off your eyes, the chips off your shoulders and speak out.
