Can anyone suggest a NICE but reasonably casual restaurant for a first date in Redondo Beach or Hermosa Beach?

I've met the woman once in person and we've chatted on the phone a few times since.

Looking for a nice atmosphere conducive to conversation.....no dives but also nothing TOO fancy as this is a FIRST date.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

isn't there a cheesecake factory near the Redondo harbor? that's usually a good place that is neither too cheap nor too expensive. All the CFs i've been to also have a bar so you can grab a drink while waiting to be sat if that interests you.

Thanks!

From the guys behind California Pizza Kitchen, try LA Food Show, Manhattan Beach. A grill and bar atmosphere and the menu is all over the place.

Have you ruled out Tony's on Redondo Pier? Prices are high-ish ($18-$25+) but it's a local mainstay, the atmosphere is casual and being right on the water immediately puts the party at complete ease. The windows open, so too bad about the rainy weather. There's an upstairs bar and nightly entertainment, of the singer-songwriter, acoustic guitar sort.

Edited to add: The Green Temple. VERY intimate place. Small and casual, if you're looking for something like a hideaway. It's vegetarian--that's a conversation starter to begin with. I'll tell you I myself have never been, but I know someone who really thinks highly of it and has gone on dates there. He's kind of a granola, though...but the atmosphere seems relaxing anyway. Personally, the food sounded just OK. There's a tofu sauce that's apparently to rave about. No bar. I guess entrees top out at about $15, so it's easier on the wallet.

I haven't been there in years, but Le Petit Cafe in Hermosa used to be amazing. Small, intimate, quite with soft, live entertainment. It was a fabulous place for a first date. Anyone been there lately? Going there and then to a show at the Hermosa Comedy and Magic Club was a winner all the way.

This first date is long gone, but I recommend Hudson House (http://www.hudsonhousebar.com/home.php - broken link) off PCH in Redondo.
