I may be moving to somewhere within a reasonable commuting distance of Palmdale for work. I've read alot of discussions about the areas, but haven't read anything about their property taxes. How are the property taxes? It appears that there are some great deals on homes now in the area, will they base the property tax off what the house sells for or what they think it should be worth?

Also, do you think property has bottomed out around the area or is there still more to go? Sounds like based upon the local economies it hasn't bottomed yet.

The base property tax off the sale value, but you want to make sure it's current when you buy and that you get it reevaluted as soon as possible so you don't pay over the first time around.

As far as percentages, figure 1-2% of sale value depending on the age of the home(newer homes will have Mello Roos bonds and such) and other local assessments.
