Hi Everyone!

We are leaving LA this summer. I have been here my whole life, and am wondering if any of you out there have left LA but still comment here. If so, what do you miss about LA?

Thanks!

The only things I miss:

1) My and my wife's parents (who are "old" LA; either grew up here in the 1940s or moved here in the late 1950s; They are retired and still think California is paradise.)
2) Swimming in the sun at lunchtime 52 weeks of the year (for $2: Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center or CSUN or Pierce College)
3) Flowers in February.

That's it. There is really nothing else - Especially considering the excessive cost of living and low quality of life. Most other mid to large towns have 97% of the diversity, culture, restaurants, entertainment, etc. that LA has without the negatives.

Moved to near Colorado Springs in June 2006. Denver and COS have nearly all the good things and few of the bad things: jobs, quality of life, weather, no traffic, mildly inexpensive housing, excellent schools, and comfortable demographics.

Glad you asked.

Thanks Charles,

Family is certainly the tough one, but those other things are nice too Maybe Feb. for some flowers and a swim is a good time to visit! Sound like the move was right for you though.

All the best!

Personally, I am not a shopper or interested in the latest trends, so if you lived in the burbs like I did there was no pressure to conform, but Boston itself has Newbury St. which has all the top designers in buildings dating back to the 1800's, it has the Prudential Building that carries the best of the best and now the Natick Mall which boasts the largest mall in the country or will be soon, so shopping....hummm? Oh, and let's not forget that there is NO TAX on clothing in Ma. and you have New Hamphire next door that has no sales tax, period. Boston wins!!!!

Moved to small, Indiana town after nearly 30 years in LA. DON'T MISS the bumper-to-bumper traffic that's almost 24/7; taking an hour to get out of Dodger Stadium if you stay for the whole game; the smoggy days. DO MISS the wide choice in dining; movies that start at 10:30 AM; the crystal clear days; both mountains and ocean within driving distance. Oh, and our long-time friends.
