Hi All,

It looks like i'll be moving over to Santa Monica this year for a new job and I was wondering if I could get some honest comments about the place. I was over there for an interview last year and, from what I saw I quite enjoyed it but, of course, I only saw the surface of things.

For those who live there, what's the overall quality of life like? Is there a lot of crime, good shops, nice places to go etc.

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

Edit: Title meant to say "Wanted" not "Wantes" Doh!

it's a great place to live if you can afford it. it's not so much that it is so much more expensive than other westside areas, you just get a lot less for the money. ie. $1500 will get you a large 1br or 2br in palms or culver city, but you'll get a shoebox of a unit 500-600sf in santa monica. i lived in santa monica for a couple of years, but decided to move down to marina del rey when i realized i could be just as close to the beach, get an extra 200sf in my apartment and also have a washer/dryer in unit. MDR isn't quite as exciting as SM, but it's only a few miles away so i'll live.

Santa Monica is a VERY desirable area with much to offer in restaurants, retail, nightlife, beach life, etc. Also very, very SAFE. A good place to live and work.
