LA is an expensive town.I am watching Lethal Weapon-1 right now and Mel Gibson lives in a bus or a trailer right?
What are they called.......Is it legal to live in them......Dont you think, when you are young and carefree, you can go and live in one of them and make them your permanent house...................Why dont most people do so when they crib so much about rentals......I mean install a bed,a small library,An LCD,my PS3 and a toilet-What more do you want?

So is it possible and How much does it cost"?

I had to read this three times to get an idea of what is being posted.

Heck, why not take it once step further and commit a crime and live in jail for free? Free internet, free education, free exercise equipment, even free romance. What more do you want?

I've never seen Lethal Weapon 1, but the idea isn't terribly bad, but in most locales that sort of arrangement is illegal.

The best you could do is buy or rent an old single-wide mobile home in a park, or on a small piece of land, or live in an RV in a park. But, in LA, even this wouldn't be dirt cheap.

Here's what you get in Malibu (near some of the movie stars) for $900 (more than I pay for a nice 2bed/2bath apartment in Denver, CO):
Trailer in Malibu (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/apa/1612087639.html - broken link)

Cheap living arrangements are hard to find, and you likely would have to put your pride and/or safety at risk.

Never thought of prison that way!!

OP, I think you are referring to trailers and RVs. Not all of them are cheap. Some RVs can run you 100k easily and some can range in the millions-very specialized for the well heeled.

But yeah the normal trailer park variety, you can fix up electricity, have a TV and/or satellite etc. I wouldn't aspire to live there as a goal though! I mean if hard times hit, that is one thing, but not as a goal!

You can also find a roomate, that should lower costs.

In "Lethal Weapon" Mel Gibson chased the bad guy from Hollywood boulevard to Silver Lake ON FOOT and it only took him like 5 minutes!

Heh. The L.A. Weekly had an article about people living in their vans (by choice) about two weeks ago. It doesn't sound appealing to me at all.

When I was in my 20s I had a friend who was always sleeping on someone's couch. I was the only friend of his that he didn't stay with (not my fault, I had roommates and they voted "no") and, again, not appealing. The guy was always broke and out of a job yet he always managed to gather enough money to buy weed.

I have seen some pretty nice trailer parks but most of them have prefab homes in the spaces and not actual trailers that you can hitch to the back of a truck and just drive away and they usually only allow people 55 and over in there. The ones that are for everyone are pretty crappy.

I always opted for living in an apartment (for $900 you can at least get a decent studio) and saving money by finding as many free things to do as possible.

A comparable practical idea would be to buy a cheap used houseboat or small watercraft with a cabin, and live in it in a slip at one of the marina's. You can get old used boats for pretty cheap and the montly slip fees are nothing compared to a mortgage or rent. Plus, you have waterfront property

Here is that trailor that Mel lived in on Dockweiler State Beach in El Segundo. Not that you can at this beach but most of the State beaches you have time limits that you can stay at them, meaning no long term living.
