Living in the San Gabriel Valley
I have been living here in the San Gabriel Valley.Life is real different when you go to the west side. We don't have a lot of fun things to do here but we have a lot of Chinese food. People are not as sophisticated here. I kinda like it here. There is a development going on here in Monterey Park. North east corner of Atlantic and Emerson. There will be a theather,some westside style businesses and restaurants. It is vacant now,starting to build. It will be exciting to see what will be there.

totally agree with you, kind of boring, but the people are nice, and the chinese food is great! i like the racial diversity and age? diversity from little kids to very old people absolutely everywhere. also cool is the total lack of poseurs. for intellectual stimulation (referring to lack of sophistication you mentioned) you could join something like a film or book group or even take a discussion class at any of the area's many colleges and universities...

SGV's nightlife is in Pasadena - in addition, South Pas has plenty of Berkeley-esque sophistication, very friendly and refreshing, not pretentious. I love the SGV in all its variety... much friendlier and more diverse than the Westside. And as you both mentioned - the Chinese food is awesome!

Tell me about the Chinese New Year parade on February 7 in Alhambra. What time do you recommend getting there for that?

Oh,I need to check on that
I just called the Chamber of Commerce,I am also a member there;
I was told that it starts at 11:00 am
There are food booths and other Chinese things from Valley Blvd/Del Mar to Almansor St.
I talked to someone who is the Director of the Immortals Gung-Fu Lion Dancers. He said on the 31st he will be there in Chinatown with his group.
at 2 pm. He said at the corner of Ord and Hill

It looks like you have assimilated well into the Asian Oasis. I go there once a month to visit family and I love it! It is always fun to see how Asian immigrants are building their own economy.

I am Chinese,so I have no problem living there.
Everything is within reach.
There is a big construction going on at the corner of Hellman and Atlantic. It's a large multiscale usage area. right off the 10 off Atlantic. It's going to look like the Orange County Malls. The 24 hour Fitness,a theather,condos shops. Should be finished soon

Hi all,
First post here . Yes the construction on Atlantic/Hellman has been going on for awhile, hopefully they will be done soon. I've lived here for about 22 years. I moved to Redondo Beach and had a place right on the beach (just steps from the sand) but it gets boring after awhile. I like how close everything is here. If I feel like Chinese food, Vietnamese food, Mexican Food, its all nearby! I just started an online classifieds site for the san gabriel valley but I don't want to put a link up because I'm new and I'm not sure if its against the rules.
VillageLife, you are a senior member here on this forum. Do you have any advice as to how I can promote this classifieds website for the SGV community? Well, I hope everyone had a great New Year and Chinese New Year is around the corner!
Nice to meet you all!
