So I call a doctor's office in Burbank today to set up an appointment and after they ask me for all my information: Name, Date of Birth, Insurance name, etc. , the receptionist then asks if I work for "The Industry." I proceed to say no and she says that their office only sees people that work for the Industry.

Does that sound right to any of you? Isn't that discrimination is some way shape or form?

How did you get this doctor's information? Is he/she listed in some directory provided by your insurance company? You should have answered "yes" as everyone works in one industry or another.

"The Industry" might have meant health care.

LOL...you guys are too much. The Industry as in the Motion Pictures and TV industry. I saw his name on my insurance company's website as contracted with my plan, so that's why I was stunned.

Call your insurance company and ask if its allowed for providers to discriminate against plan members based on their occupation.

The insurance company only makes payment. A physician is an independent contractor and can refuse service at his/her discretion.

A doctor does not have to take in more patients because of the Hippocratic Oath.

It is only discrimination if they tell you that they only take people that work in the industry and knowingly take someone else as a patient that is not in the industy. In a court of law if you can prove that they did not take you as a patient because you were not in the industry and took someone that you can prove also is not in the industry then you have a case.

Kind of the same thing when you take your Mercedes to the Porsche dealer for service. The Porsche dealer could tell you that they only work on Porsches and you will need to take your Mercedes somewhere else.
