When I lived in SF there was a good AM station, KGO. It was a news/talk station but not the usual repeating right-wing stuff like Limbaugh.

Now that I'm in LA I've only been able to find 640, 780 and I think 980 and these are all the predictable rightwing stuff and sports. Are there any different AM stations that are more varied??

I usually wind up listeniing to NPR.

Well, if you like NPR, there's always Air America.

Oh wait....never mind.

P.S. KNX 1070 is a classic. Reminds me of my Grandpa, and it hasn't changed a whole lot since then.

Their would be more liberal stations if that stuff actually paid the bills. Turns out that even the radio industry is a business and they have to make a profit. (Unless you are NPR and being subsudized by the tax payers, most of whom are listening not to NPR but conservative talk radio.)

If you're looking for different and varied, the AM dial never has been a bastion of that. When I was growing up back in the fifties and sixties, AM radio in LA had your choice of the following clones: Screaming deejays, staid news and weather, Gil Strattonesque sportscasters, and current events talk.

There were some standouts, such as Joe Pyne, Jim Healey and Bob Crane, but most of what AM radio served up then, as now, was/is the same repackaged crap that sells ad minutes.

Frosty Heidi and Frank on 790 from 9-11 am is a great show.
Tim Conway Jr on 640 from 8-11 pm is a great show.

Both were on the defunked 97.1 FM talk station. FHF hardly ever talks about politics and Tim Conway slams both parties. Of course, he slams demos more because Obama is in charge and breaking just about every promise he had during his campaign.

But overall, AM radio = right wing. If you want good nonsense radio, you should look into podcasts. I'm strictly a podcast listener. I can't stand the 5-7 minute breaks.

That's a good idea. I enjoy the Voice of Reason Network, because they'll cover certain topics that you'll never hear spoken about on any local stations, such as PNAC, Israel selling our technology secrets to China, etc.

Check out 89.3 FM-- all talk (except for some amusing, intelligent entertainment type shows on the weekends), information, regional, natl, intnl news. It's an NPR affiliate. And no, NPR is hardly subsidized by the tax payers. Most NPR stations only get about 7% of their operating budgets from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I'd hardly call that a subsidy!

I hope the OP isn't looking for information on "The problems that multiculturalism and Jewish ethnocentrism pose to America."

Some voice of reason!

In another post I asked if "Read Culture of Critique And Listen To The Voice of Reason Network' was referring to the right wing Russian Orthodox network (which is blatantly anti-semitic and anti-American).

Said individual has just confirmed they are talking about said network, which is basically Pravda on the radio.
